Deputy Adam Heitman - Creek County Sheriff's Office - Oklahoma

On July 15, 2026, Deputy Adam Heitman of the Creek County Sheriff's Office (Oklahoma) suffered a medical emergency while on duty and passed away.

The Creek County Sheriff's Office Task Force, the United States Marshals Service, Muscogee Nation Lighthouse Police Department, and Creek County Sheriff's Office were serving a warrant on a suspect wanted on multiple felony warrants.  The suspect had fled law enforcement officers during a traffic stop on July 7, 2026, and had been charged with assault and battery on law enforcement.

When officers attempted to arrest this suspect, the suspect fled again.  Deputy Adam Heitman and his K9 partner (Thanos), pursued after the suspect over a fence, across a creek, and through a field and eventually apprehending the suspect.  

After Deputy Heitman returned back to the Creek County Sheriff's Office, he suffered a medical emergency less than an hour after the arrest. Despite attempts at life-saving measures, he passed away that evening at Ascension St. John Sapulpa Hospital.

The suspect, a convicted felon with prior escape convictions and a long criminal record, has a pending DUI case, a deferred sentence in a 2014 drug case, charges for assault and battery, and escape from arrest.

Deputy Adam Heitman was a United States Marine Corps veteran and had served with the Creek County Sheriff's Office for four years. He previously served with the Kiefer Police Department. Survivors include his wife and two daughters.  Deputy Heitman was 38 years old.  Our prayers and condolences to Deputy Heitman's family both at home as well as his family at Creek County Sheriff's Office.
