Deputy Logan Utt - Carroll County Sheriff's Office - Virginia
On May 29, 2026, at approximately 9:26 p.m., deputies from the Carroll County Sheriff's Office (Virginia), were dispatched for a welfare check at 13658 Fancy Gap Highay in Cana, Virginia.
When Deputy Logan Utt and another deputy arrived, contact was made with the male party that they had been called about. The male began firing at Deputy Utt and the other deputy. Both deputies returned fire, but the male suspect was able to flee. As of the time of this blog post, the suspect has not been captured, however, law enforcement knows the male's identity.
Deputy Logan Utt did not survive his injuries. The other deputy was struck in his ballistic vest and received medical treatment.
Deputy Logan Utt was a military veteran and leaves behind a wife and children. Our prayers and condolences for his family at home and with the Carroll County Sheriff's Office.
