Deputy Michael Jimerson - Jackson County Sheriffs Office - Mississippi

On April 1, 2026, at approximately 11:00 p.m., Jackson County Sheriffs Office (Mississippi) deputies were dispatched to a disturbance at the Reserve at Gulf Hills Apartments at 6721 Washington Avenue in Ocean Springs.
The disturbance was in regarding to a female walking around the apartment complex playing loud music. Deputy Michael Jimerson was the first deputy on scene and engaged in a foot pursuit with the female. During the pursuit, the female pulled out a firearm and began shooting. Deputy Jimerson returned fire, and in the exchange of gunfire, both were struck.
Deputy Jimerson was transported to Ocean Springs Hospital, where he succumbed to his wounds. The female suspect died at the scene.
Deputy Michael Jimerson had served with the Jackson County Sheriff's Office for 16 years. His survivors include his wife of 42 years, two children (son and daughter), and three grandchildren. His son followed his father's footsteps and is a law enforcement officer as well.
As part of our "Plaques for Heroes" mission, engraved slate memorial plaques were sent to the Jackson County Sheriff's Office and to Deputy Michael Jimerson's family at no cost to honor his service and his sacrifice to the community of Jackson County, Mississippi.
