On May 23, 2023, Deputy Sheriff Andres Julian "Andy" Lahera of the Citrus County Sheriff's Office (Florida) was struck by a vehicle while directing traffic in Lecanto, Florida.

Deputy Lahera had been directing traffic at approximately 9:05 p.m. for a graduation ceremony at the Lecanto High School  Deputy Lahera was wearing a safety reflective vest, was holding a flashlight, and had his squad's emergency lights activated at the time of the incident.  Even with all these safety measures, Deputy Lahera was still struck by a vehicle traveling southbound on South Lecanto Highway.

Deputy Lahera was airlifted to the hospital with a traumatic brain injury (TBI) and internal injuries.  He was eventually moved to a rehabilitation facility.  Unfortunately, Deputy Lahera succumbed to his injuries on September 11, 2025.

Deputy Andres Julian Lahera had served with the Citrus County Sheriff's Office for 14 years and was the Lecanto Middle School Resource Officer.  He is survived by his wife and two sons.  Our prayers and condolences to the Lahera family as well as the Citrus County Sheriff's Office.
