Deputy Sheriff Rick Haggard, from the Lee County Sheriff's Department in Mississippi, was struck and killed while directing traffic in front of Shannon Elementary School at 695 Romie Hille Avenue in Shannon on February 2, 2026.
Around 3:00 p.m., two vehicles were involved in a collision, and Deputy Haggard, who was directing traffic, was struck.
Deputy Haggard was the School Resource Officer for Shannon Elementary School. He was 52-years-old and was a staple within the community. Our prayers and condolences for his family both at home, at the department, and at the elementary school where he was assigned.
