Deputy Thomas "Walker" LeMay - LeFlore County Sheriff's Office - Oklahoma

On April 19, 2026, at approximately 11:00 a.m., law enforcement was dispatched to a welfare check at a home off of Highway 270 in Wister, Oklahoma.

Deputy Thomas "Walker" LeMay from the LeFlore County Sheriff's Office, the Chief from the Wister Police Department, and an officer from the U.S. Forestry Department responded to the call.  Upon arrival, they were met with gunfire.  The officers returned fire and the suspect retreated into the residence and barricaded himself inside.

During the exchange of gunfire, Deputy Thomas LeMay and the Wister Police Chief were struck.  The chief was struck while trying to save Deputy LeMay. Tragically, Deputy LeMay was pronounced dead at the scene.

After several hours, and the response of additional agencies including the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the suspect surrendered and was treated for minor injuries, then taken into custody.

Deputy LeMay leaves behind a daughter, parents, and brother.

As part of our "Plaques for Heroes" mission, engraved slate memorial plaques were sent to the LeFlore County Sheriff's Office and to Deputy Thomas LeMay's at no cost to honor his service and his sacrifice to the community of LeFlore County, Oklahoma. Our condolences to his family, his department and the community he served.
