On April 29, 2026, Firefighter/Paramedic Neil Schnaible of the Lake Valley Fire Protection District (California) suffered a line-of-duty medical emergency. He had suffered a heart attack, fell, and struck his head causing severe brain bleeding. Fellow firefighters performed CPR and restored his pulse, but unfortunately, he passed away a few days later.
Fire Chief John McNamara stated, “Engineer Schnaible served the Lake Valley Fire Protection District and the community of South Lake Tahoe with honor, distinction, and unwavering dedication. He exemplified the highest ideals of the fire service – courage, professionalism, and a selfless commitment to protecting lives and property. His service to this District and to this community will never be forgotten.”
Firefighter/Paramedic Neil Schnaible was posthumously promoted to the rank of Engineer. Engineer Schnaible began his fire service career on 3/26/19, proudly serving the communities of Meyers and South Tahoe.
Our prayers and condolences to Engineer Schnaible's family, both at home and at the Lake Valley Fire Protection District.
