K9 Diesel - Chattanooga Police Department - Tennessee

On September 15, 2025, K9 Diesel of the Chattanooga Police Department (Tennessee), was assigned to apprehend a suspect with felony warrant in the 3300 block of 4th Avenue in Chattanooga. 

Officer had been responding to a domestic disturbance call involving an armed suspect who was refusing to exit a residence.  K9 Diesel was deployed to execute a search for the suspect.  During the apprehension of this suspect, K9 Diesel sustained severe lacerations from broken glass on both rear legs which severed an artery and his Achilles tendon.  Despite immediate life-saving treatment, K9 Diesel's injuries were too severe.  K9 Diesel was unfortunately humanely euthanized two days later on September 17, 2025. 

The suspect was apprehended a few weeks alter and was charged with aggravated assault and false imprisonment.  

K9 Diesel had served with the Chattanooga Police Department for approximately 1 1/2 years and was 3 years old.  K9 Diesel was named in honor of U.S. Marine Corps Sergeant Carson Holmquist, on of Chattanooga's Fallen Five.  During the 2025 USPCA Region 22 K9 Trials, K9 Diesel earned 1s place in Suspect Box Search and 2nd place in Narcotics Detection, qualifying for national competition.
