K9 Oya - North County Police Cooperative - Missouri

On July 30, 2025, K9 Oya of the North County Police Cooperative (Missouri) was shot and killed while attempting to apprehend two suspects fleeing from a stolen vehicle in St. Louis.

At about 10:30 a.m., suspects in a stolen vehicle led officers in a pursuit after refusing to pull over.  After crashing the stolen vehicle and fled on foot in separate directions, K9 Oya was deployed to assist.

In a press release, police stated, “The two suspects exited the crashed vehicle and fled on foot in two separate directions ultimately resulting in the death of K9 Oya, who was utilized to assist in the apprehension of one of the suspects.”  The department has not yet provided details on how K9 Oya died during the chase. The announcement has left some in the community demanding answers and full transparency about what led to the death of K9 Oya.

Prayers for K9 Oya's handler and the department.  Hopefully it will be known soon what the specific circumstances were in her death.  K9 Oya had served with the North County Police Cooperative for over a year.
