Officer Christopher M. L. Reese - Virgina Beach Police Department - Virginia
On February 22, 2025, Officer Chirstopher Reese and Officer Cameron Robert Girvin of the Virginia Beach Police Department were killed in the line of duty. They were both conducting a traffic stop at approximately 11:30 that evening.
Officer Girvin and Reese were doing proactive patrol and initiated a traffic stop for expired tabs. The driver of the vehicle was instructed to exit the vehicle and the driver refused. When the driver eventually exited the vehicle, the driver got into a physical altercation with the officers. During this altercation, the driver shot both officers with a gun that he had on his person. While the officers were on the ground and incapacitated, the driver shot both again and then fled on foot.
The driver was eventually found in a shed with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. First responders on scene attempted to save the lives of Officer Girvin and Officer Reese. They both passed away later while in the hospital.

Officer Christopher Reese served the Virginia Beach Police Department for three years. He previously served the Virginia Beach Sheriff's Office for three years.
Officer Girvin and Reese were not just members of a police department; they were family, friends, and heroes. Their sacrifice is a painful reminder of the daily dangers police officers face and their unwavering commitment to serve with honor and integrity.
As part of our "Plaques for Heroes" campaign, an engraved slate memorial plaque was sent to the Virginia Beach Police Department and to Reese's family at no cost to honor his service and his sacrifice to the community of Virginia Beach.
