Officer Ray Barrantes - Chowchilla Police Department - California

On October 3, 2025, Officer Ray Barrantes of the Chowchilla Police Department (California) was killed while on duty.  

At approximately 10:30 p.m., Officer Barrantes was near the intersection of State Route 152 and Road 13 in Madera County.  While driving eastbound on State Route 152, a semi-trailer hauling tomatoes crossed the 152 while traveling southbound on Road 13.  At this intersection, Officer Barrantes' patrol car collided with the right rear end of the semi-trailer.  Officer Barrantes was pronounced deceased at the scene.  The semi-trailer driver was not injured.  

Officer Barrantes had served with the Chowchilla Police Department for nearly two years and previously served with the West Sacramento Police Department. He is survived by his wife and three children.  Our prayers and condolences to Officer Barrantes' family as well as the Chowchilla Police Department.
