On January 7, 2026, at approximately 12:40 a.m., Officer Stephen LaPorta of the Uxbridge Police Department (Massachusetts) was struck and killed by a driver on Route 146.
Officer Stephen LaPorta was assisting a disabled motorist on northbound Route 146 just past exit 6. There was freezing rain falling at the time and a tractor-trailer hit Officer LaPorta while assisting the motorist. Despite life-saving measures being provided on scene, Officer LaPorta succumbed to his wounds.
The driver was transported to a local hospital and treated for minor injuries.
Officer Stephen LaPorta had served with the Uxbridge Police Department for over one year. He is survived by his wife and child. Our prayers and condolences to Officer LaPorta's family both at home as well as with the Uxbridge Police Department.
