Sergeant Michael Schlattman - Bernalillo County Sheriff's Office - New Mexico

On February 23, 2026, Sergeant Michael Schlattman from the Bernalillo County Sheriffs Office (New Mexico) was conducting a traffic stop at around 5:00 p.m.

While conducting the traffic stop and out of his patrol vehicle, a semi-truck hit his vehicle pinning him between the two vehicles.  Sergeant Schlattman unfortunately died at the scene.  The driver was injured and released.  

Sergeant Schlattman had served with the Bernalillo County Sheriff's Office for just under 14 years.  He leaves behind a wife.  Our prayers and condolences for Sgt. Schlattman's family both at home as well as with the Bernalillo County Sheriff's Office.
